Workshop Location
This workshop will be held in a large oceanfront house in Frisco, North Carolina, just 5 miles north of Hatteras Village and the free car ferry to Ocracoke--at milemarker 68 on Route 12. It takes 1-1/2 hours to drive from Kitty Hawk, and the nearest major airport is Norfolk, Virginia (about 3 hours away). If flying, you'll want a rental car to get to Frisco and for sightseeing while there. Lodging and travel information will be provided with confirmations. The fees include workshop registration, continuing education, handout notebook, 6 nights' lodging, and generous continental breakfast on the 5 workshop days.

Workshop Description
What better environment to learn than against the relaxing background of the beautiful Outer Banks, the barrier islands of North Carolina? Join us for lodging and training in a large oceanfront house. Mornings and a couple evenings are devoted to the workshop, leaving plenty of time for exploring the historical/natural beauty, fishing, shelling, shopping, or using the large "sandtray"--the beach--just outside our doors! Earn a total of 25 CE credits for the workshop portion of the week.
This intensive workshop is designed for child and family therapists who work with the many challenges presented by children who have experienced chronic trauma/abuse and who have various levels of attachment disruption in their lives. The comprehensive, multimodal treatment approach, which features play therapy and Filial Therapy as its centerpiece, is applicable to some of the most extreme cases of PTSD and RAD. The workshop covers specific individual, group, and family play therapy interventions that have been researched and used successfully with this population. Furthermore, participants will learn the intricacies of treatment planning with this population, and the importance of working with all parties to create a therapeutic community for the child.
If you work with children with PTSD, attachment disruptions, foster families, adoptive families, or family reunifications, you will learn an effective approach for facilitating positive outcomes for these children and their families. Nondirective, directive, family, and animal-assisted play therapy approaches are integrated into the model. Teaching methods include lecture, video/live demonstrations, case studies, skills practice, and experiential activities.
